De Doelen is a concert and conference building in the heart of Rotterdam, located on the Schouwburgplein. Around 600 concerts take place every year. In addition to classical concerts by the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, you can also enjoy world music and jazz.

What is there to see?

You can go to De Doelen for all kinds of different things. From well-known crowd pullers to small-scale concerts. De Doelen has a wide variety of programming for all ages. It is therefore not surprising that it is the most visited Rotterdam stage institution. In addition to concerts, international events such as the International Film Festival Rotterdam and the Gergiev Festival are also held.

History

De Doelen originated in the seventeenth century, when public concerts were held by city musicians on the Haagscheveer. Later in 1844 the then still called “De Doele” was opened on Coolsingel. Later in 1940, the building was destroyed in a bombing in World War II. The current De Doelen was only opened in 1966. It is a municipal monument that serves as the ‘capstone of the reconstruction’ and is of great historical cultural value for the city.

Music

In 2004 there was a huge makeover, which made the Breakaway Café what it is today. The choice of music is therefore very decisive for the atmosphere that you see returning. If you look around you will see that the authentic decoration from the 50s and 60s is mixed with today’s electronics. It is funny that the music takes you back in time, so the combination of past and present is very unique.

Cocktail bar

Breakaway is the first “flair” cocktail bar in the Netherlands and is considered one of the best in this category. Order a cocktail, and before you know it, the glasses, bottles and cocktail shakers will fly in pirouettes.

Located in the Central Plaza shopping center, MISO Sushi is the ideal place to dine if you park in the Central Plaza parking garage. Here you can eat Japanese and Asian dishes according to the all-you-can-eat concept. Besides fantastic food, MISO Sushi also has a great interior.

About the restaurant

Classic Japanese elements and European design make MISO Sushi a warm and hip hotspot in the center of Rotterdam. The lanterns create a nice atmosphere and the chairs and benches are covered with soft fabrics for ideal comfort and a nice appearance. Are you going to eat at MISO Sushi? Look out for the gigantic murals of Japanese sumo wrestlers. You can say a real eye-catcher.

Dinner at MISO Sushi

Now of course the eye always wants something, but it is mainly about what you can eat here, of course. The menu consists of over 100 Asian dishes, all of which you can order unlimited. It is go-time for two hours, spread over 5 rounds. There are nigiri with tuna tataki, octopus and sea bass, but also fresh maki with salmon & mango, spicy beef or grilled eel.

The price? You can dine there from € 27.50. Lunch is possible from € 19.50. In addition to the all-you-can-eat concept, you can also order dishes from the à la carte menu.

Vascobelo is originally from Antwerp, but nowadays also based in Rotterdam! Vascobelo is particularly known for the delicious coffee that you can enjoy in combination with breakfast or lunch. Besides that you can also go there for a nice drink or dinner.

Café-brasserie Vascobelo among all kinds of other nice restaurants behind the Schouwburgplein, on the Lijnbaan. The section is bustling with all the catering and shops that you will find in the area.

Vascobelo, also called “V-Bar”, has even been praised several times for its quality coffee. So it is not just any coffee you can drink there, but highly appreciated and award-winning coffee.

Because V-Bar is so centrally located between the catering industry, you might expect a vibrant and busy café. But adjust your expectations quickly, because at Vascobelo serves as a resting point to escape from all the hustle and bustle. The interior is very homely, quiet and cozy. Noteworthy are the bookcases against the wall, which respond well to the “bib trend”.
